TITLE: Director of Medical Affairs REPORTS TO: Chief Medical Officer I. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PHYSICIAN AS Director of Medical Affairs As Director of Medical Affairs, Physician shall perform the duties set forth in Exhibit A to this Agreement and made a part hereof by reference. Summary: The physician Director will report to the Chief Medical Officer. The physician shall assist the Chief Medical Officer in duties assigned including support of the Medical Staff Office, the Medical Staff Leadership, and governance and improvement in the efficiency, resource utilization, quality and safety of care. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Quality -In collaboration with the Director of Quality, the physician Director is responsible for: Overseeing such functions as required by The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies Oversee patient care quality and peer review activities Support continuous PI activities to include achievement of clinical outcomes, protocol development and best practice implementation Provide guidance and leadership for performance guidelines Support the Medical Staff Quality Oversight Committee Support Organizational Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Committee Assist in management of clinical patient complaints 2. Care Management? as Physician Advisor: Work with care transitions coordinators to facilitate efficiencies in the delivery of care in the inpatient setting Facilitate the management of clinical denials Participate in the organizational UR activities including oversight over medical necessity, inappropriate admissions, LOS issues, Along with the CT Director, act as physician leader of the Readmissions team, and Care Transitions team Oversee documentation and care planning Assist in directing lean opportunities for the Medical Staff 3. Medical Staff Relations Promotes a positive working relationship between the medical staff and Administration. Consolidates medical staff perspectives and seeks to facilitate successful strategies and resolution of problems. Maintains effective communication between the medical staff and Administration. Promotes use of the hospital by members of the department. Supports and mentors current and future medical staff leaders. Qualifications At least 7 years clinical experience At least 3 years leadership experience with proven outcomes Demonstrated clinical excellence, including board certification. Proven leadership abilities. Exemplary personal conduct. Proven track record of implementing change and developing programs. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organization. A team player. Mentoring skills. Ability to make difficult decisions. A commitment to Hospital. II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PHYSICIAN AS ACTIVE PHYSICIAN REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Physician shall report to the Chief Medical Officer. FUNCTIONS: Provide outpatient competent, high quality clinical care consistent with the standard of care for a board eligible/board certified practitioner. Prepare and maintain patient medical records on forms pre-approved by Hospital consistent with Medical Staff and JC standards. Obtain consultation with other physicians as appropriate. Assist in the preparation for and participate in surveys by federal or state regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies such as the TJC. Participate in community service health programs and educational sessions as reasonably required by the Chief Medical Officer. Participate in clinical research studies and clinical guideline and care management programs as reasonably directed. Provide and/or arrange for, with the collaboration of the Hospital, for reasonable night and weekend after hours coverage for patients of the Practice. Perform Practice administrative functions as described above. Participate in Hospital and office compliance activities. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Physician will meet the standards and requirements for Medical Staff membership as defined in the Medical Staff Bylaws, including those for Board Certification and licensure requirements. Physician may not at the time of holding the position, be an employee, principal or agent of any other healthcare organization or other entity. Physician will work in the outpatient or inpatient. office setting two days per week and work as the Director of Medical Affairs 3 days per week. Location: - 10 minutes to Newark, DE - 15 minutes to the coast - 45 minutes to Philadelphia or Baltimore - 2 hours to NYC or DC - Just 10 minutes from I-95 and located directly between Philadelphia and Baltimore - They offer quality living either in town, by the waterway of the Chesapeake Bay, on an equestrian farm, or in one of the nearby cities.
